Our Past Year in Review

This is coming a little late, but I wanted to give a short year in review because 2022 was truly the biggest year of growth I’ve ever experienced and I have so many people to thank for it being so successful. Here are some highlights:

Projects

I had an incredible time working with some top notch businesses this year and I took on more projects than I ever have. In total we worked with 22 different clients designing and developing their websites.

One of my favorites was getting to work with Atlanta based designer Sarah Lawrence on a website for her new startup Tallymade. Her business creates interactive installations to drive public engagement for brands. With interaction as such a staple of the brand, we had a great time coming up with ideas to make the website equally engaging

Another highlight of the year was working with Nymbl on their agency’s website. As a No Code agency, they were all about integrating no code tools into their website. Together we designed the website and developed a good bit of the CMS using Whalesync and Airtable to sync up with Webflow. Their team was such a pleasure to work with and I’m so pleased with how it turned out!

YouTube

I’ve been making videos on YouTube for years. But a year ago I started making them as a way to learn Webflow a little better. I always found I learn better when I teach, so I made the silliest thing I could think of in Webflow and posted it online.

I kept being my true weird self in these videos. Sometimes I feel like I have to match the tech bro energy I see from a lot of other founders in the web development space, but that is so far from my personality that literally just can’t do it. To my surprise my weird self was incredibly well received by other Webflow developers and Webflow themselves! I got invited to hop on a livestream with Nelson for a live demo and build in May

Webflow

At the beginning of 2022 I started offering Webflow development to Clients, and by August I decided to only do Webflow development and drop the Wordpress work I had been taking on previously. I’m a big believer in this product and using it has advanced my confidence and skills as a designer and developer. I’m excited to see where it goes in the future

Also in a wild turn of events, Webflow invited me to play music for their team retreat in Nashville where I ran into the dynamic trio in the stairwell of ACME. You can see the shock in my face. #neverforget this wild wild time.

To my enormous surprise I made it all the way to the semifinals of the Webflow speed build and got to go to San Francisco, meeting so much of the team again and meeting so many people I’ve admired forever. My life is so weird and I don’t know how this has happened to me!

New Friends

Entering the Webflow space was huge for my sense of community. I have been a part of a few different online communities around building a business this year, but nothing really compares to the Webflow community. I attended State of Flow where I made friends that are absolutely some of my favorite people now. Incredibly grateful for Raymmar, Colleen and the rest of the State of Flow team for organizing such an incredible intimate gathering of the Webflow community. I was interviewed by Emily Giordano who is the coolest girl in the world and got to hang out with her live and in person at Webflow Conf along with so many others who I am such a big fan of.

I’m thrilled about this community and it makes me feel empowered and supported to keep on making and helping and doing good out here.

I’ll be entering my third year of freelancing this summer, and I’ll be honest, the first year and a half there was very lonely. I work alone, in my tiny office where I am also alone in the house most of the day. But through the last year and all the friends I’ve made, I feel like I am a part of a network of incredible makers and designers and creators. The feeling is priceless.

Looking forward

I feel really good about this next year of business. We’ve rebranded and we’re more experienced than ever. There are some places for improvement that I really want to focus on this next year.

Working with more design studios to develop in Webflow
Getting Webflow expert certification
Posting more consistent videos and value on YouTube

There’s more I’ve got in the bank of what I want to keep doing but I think I’ll leave it there.
